Intelligence and the Web, fagpakke
Fagpakken "Intelligence and the Web" er en fagpakke fra linjen "Softwarekonstruktion" under Master i IT, som udbydes i samarbejde med it-vest. Fagpakken kan læses selvstændigt, eller den kan indgå i en Master i IT.
Fagpakken består af tre enkeltfag:
- Intelligent Information Retrieval and Recommender Systems
- Knowledge Discovery on the Web
- Project: Application of Intelligent Web Techniques in an Industrial Context
Deltagelse i det tredje og sidste enkeltfag forudsætter faglige kompetencer svarende til dem, der opnås i mindst ét af de to forudgående fag.
Undervisningen foregår i Aarhus.
Indhold
The web plays an ever-increasing role in modern life as an information source, e-commerce platform, and recreational environment. At the same time, the web has become an increasingly competitive environment, where service providers have to maintain a high level of service quality in order to attract users or customers, and where users have a need for tools that help them find and use the information and services on the web that best suit their needs.
This course introduces methods and techniques for the design of intelligent solutions for web-based services and knowledge discovery on the web. The methods can be seen also in a more general data mining and knowledge discovery context, where relevant information should be found and extracted from a large body of data.
The contents of the course combines elements of Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Mining.
The topics covered are
- intelligent methods for information retrieval on the web
- methods and techniques for creating web-based services that interact with the user in an intelligent and adaptive manner
- use of user provided content, such as usage logs and user feedback
- recommender systems
- fundamental techniques for mining data
- knowledge discovery on the web.
The course consists of three modules. The first two modules constitute the theoretical part, and will be given in the form of courses. In the third module, the participants should apply selected core techniques and methods from one of the modules in an industrial setting (possibly based on their own work place).
Udbytte
The aim of this course is for you to become familiar with key concepts and methods for designing intelligent web-based services. After completing the course, you will be able to
- apply information retrieval techniques for constructing intelligent webbased service, including techniques for making personalized recommendations of new relevant information/items
- apply machine learning and data mining techniques to web data with the aim of e.g. creating user-adaptive web services
- apply techniques for constructing services for searching and mining the content and the structure of web pages.
You will also get hands-on experience working with concrete techniques for constructing intelligent web-based services. This practical part of the course will primarily be achieved through the project work (third module), but also (albeit to a lesser extend) through the two first modules.
Målgruppe
- Developers of software that use or provide web-based services.
- Web-designers or business consultants with an interest in advanced solutions for user-adaptive web-based services.
- People with a general interest in methods for intelligent information retrieval and knowledge discovery in databases.
Undervisningsform
The teaching will be conducted as a combination of full-day seminars, web-based communication, and project work. The third module is conducted as project work.
Adgangskrav
Diplomuddannelse i informationsteknologi (softwarekonstruktion), bacheloruddannelse i datalogi, IKT-ingeniør eller tilsvarende, samt efterfølgende to års relevant erhvervserfaring. Relevant erhvervserfaring vil være udvikling eller implementering af IT eller undervisning i IT.
Andre uddannelser kan give adgang, hvis du kan dokumentere, at du har programmeringskompetencer inden for objektorienteret programmering og softwareudvikling svarende til dem, man opnår på fagpakken Programmering af store objektorienterede systemer på diplomuddannelsen i informationsteknologi (softwarekonstruktion).
Har du ikke de beskrevne forudsætninger, kan vi anbefale, at du starter med diplomuddannelsen i IT, softwarekonstruktion. Uddannelsen udbydes af Datalogisk Institut ved Aarhus Universitet og giver grundlæggende datalogiske begreber og færdigheder.
For datamatikere findes mulighed for brobygning til masteruddannelsen i IT.
Øvrige forudsætninger
You are assumed to have a basic understanding of algorithms and data structures, but programming experience is not a requirement.
For the third module it is a prerequisite that you have competencies corresponding to those obtained by following at least one of the two first modules in Intelligence and the Web.
It is an advantage to be reasonably proficient in English, since most of the lectures will be conducted in English.
